Story
Hi!
My wife Lyna and I have one desire—to have children of our own. And part of the thing that is stopping us is our weight and our lifestyles. So this year, in the lead up to Kokoda, I've had to make changes. This trek is personal! Training, eating well and really focussing on my health and wellbeing. My wife, being a Pacific Islander is at a high risk from type 2 diabetes, many of her family members already suffer from this insidious disease, so we're fighting it at home and will take that fight to Kokoda as well. Help me raise money to stamp out the terrible effects of this disease that is ravaging the Pacific.
The hike will be a gruelling 9-day hike in July, with steep paths through humid, equatorial jungles.
Here are some stats about how bad diabetes is:
- 371 million people with diabetes in 2017.
- It is estimated that by 2035, there will be 592 million people with diabetes.
- There are already 30 million people with diabetes in the Western Pacific Region
- 1.4 million people with diabetes in the territories of the South Pacific Division
- 1 in 4 Pacific Islanders (adult) is a diabetic
Your donation will go directly to:
